Let's have some of your practical tips to saving utility expenditure.

such as:
* minimum water to heat in the kettle, make sure the lid is on
* making sure of minimum heat-up time on the oven and switching off power as I take things out or off the rings.
* cutting shower time water
* far more use of the outdoor drying line over the dryer - more assessment of the weather before a wash-load goes ahead.
* use of a thermal blanket rather than heating - my Dreamland, a present, is brilliant and 1p/hour consumption apparently.

Over to you.....

What happens to those who are exempt from Council Tax because they are on Pension Credit - do they receive the £150 towards their utility bills?

//and I always measure the water in the kettle. I hope you turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth. Also, keep your windows shut in cold weather, and make sure your room thermostat is set one or two degrees lower than what you are used to (Put a pully on!)//

the answer is yes, yes and yes,

I like the idea of leaving the oven door open to cool down.
Goodgoalie...I've gotten the impression that it's *everyone* in bands A through D. I wanted to query it at my council offices yesterday but they were closed.
I couldn't access the article, but this might help...

"Those exempt from paying council tax, including students and retirees on pension credit, will still be able to receive the grant. Those living by themselves and receiving the single person discount, which reduces their council tax bill by 25pc, will also be entitled to the full £150 rebate.5 days ago

Thanks, pasta. Can't find any info on this.
Snapping up thermal under layer garments like vests and leggings whenever I see them on offer for whole family and encouraging them to layer up before saying they feel cold. Taken to wearing double pyjamas and 3 pairs of bed socks so we can turn heating down. I predict a fall in pregnancies and births in the next year if this trend continues!
I never have the heating on over night, dont even have a working radiator in the bedroom, but I do have an electric underblanket. Helps soothe my joints and keeps me warm.
My electric blanket is the best £30 I've ever spent! Couldn't be without it.
Karamia - i think pregnancies will go up as people go to bed early to keep warm and save on electric.
DarceyK - you are probably right. Was just imagining the peeling of the layers might dull the desire!
Shouldn't we ban cremation as a means of dealing with human remains? Must use an awful lot of gas. Burial would be more ecologically sound or - bit controversial -recycling as dog food & bone meal fertiliser!

I dont smoke or do do drugs.
Idiot.
Do one!
We are carrying on as normal, no change, just less money in the bank.
Martin Lewis saving tips are doing the rounds.
