Vidaud - Le directeur du renseignement militaire remercié pour cause d'Ukraine.....

thanked for what? - - remercier can mean - thanks but not thanks, you're fired!

Vidaud ( chef de renseignement , c'est a dire) head of french intelligence has been fired.
his leedol mistake ? asked whether Russia was gonna invade ukraine, he said - non ! certainement non ( er no certainly not)/ And now he is gone

EJ Thribbb will doubtless write a dirge or farewell poem in Private Eye

and mods, no this is NOT an advert for member enlargement
Le renseignement français, comme le renseignement de l'armée, est-il un oxymore?
Question Author
oui - certainement ( Vidaud)
They do things different in France.

If you fail miserably in UK you keep your job. May even get a promotion. Our Government has a Cabinet full of the most useless failing individuals - Patel, Kwarteng , Shapps, Dorries, Zahawi, Truss, Wallace, Raab, Gove and newcomer Sunak.
All utterly useless and secure in their jobs.
They eat horses, don't they!
I believe his replacement will be, un certain Inspector Jacques Clouseau
Can’t have been any worse than Russia’s :-)
Question Author
well Putin hasnt shot anyone - er in the Kremlin that is
which must be a good thing for the generals

I cant name anyone in macron's cabinet so I cant say if they are dead-legs. Perhaps that is why GCHQ head and NSA head were making speeches yesterday - " hey look everyone, I'm still here!"
after generations of intelligence organisations getting it wrong over things like the Iranian revolution, 9/11 and WMD (and Harold Wilson), it's mildly heartening to see someone losing his job for not doing it properly.
Question Author
have we ever fired anyone for incompetence?
Carrington went over Falklands
Churchill fired generals if they lost a battle - "have I no general who can win a battle?" and got thro countless general ( Gort Dunkirk, Auk, Ritchie North Africa)

but I see what you mean - Anthony Blunt didnt lose his job ( doo dah of the Queens pictures) for being a Russian spy
Several Russians have been arrested.

In the army and the FSB.

Interesting difference between how Russians and Ukrainians treat the dead invaders: Russia secretly cremating them, Ukraine putting them in freezers (2000).

Carrington resigned as I recall, rather than being pushed: it was a wonder of the age, a politician taking reponsibility for his department's actions.
Question Author
still the wonder
but - - completely screwed the idea that a cabinet minister could effectively govern from the Lords

I was thinking Allison Saunders and Cressida Dick - Peter Fahy ( oops I forgot to record 80 000 crimes)

carried in times today
apparently......

Brits yanks and froggies all had the same raw intelligence data

Brits and Yanks said - it looks like it ( putin will invade, silly!)

and ze grenouille a dit " ridiculous, of course he wont, loses on all scenarios, even he can see that ".....

and anozzer froggie commented; seems a shame to lose your job and pension when you are right ....
