In light of rapid increases in fossil-fuelled energy, we face drastic measures to ensure adequate supplies for both our foods and energy.
The latter makes the threshold for alternatives such as hydrogen more realistic, thereby removing the overseas reliability.
Food-supplies should be from home-grown sources, which are, according to the BBC, of better quality than similar from abroad. So, why would the U.K. export quality foods whilst importing such commodities? This, when the cost of fossil fuels for transport are so eye-wateringly high!

Away from artificial fertilisers and back to organic, local produce would guarantee quality and reduce transport costs.
Home-grown produce for the home population!
With a warmer climate, planting spaghetti trees could be worth considering.

i know it's April 1st, April fools day, spaghetti trees has been done before, ha ha
Let me know when we are growing our own coffee, tea and cocoa, for that is what us Brits want - chocolate biscuits with our hot drinks.
I think it was Nationwide that did the spaghetti tree hoax. :)
i remember it well, many people were fooled i think....
we have shoe trees so why not spaghetti trees lol x
do you remember the lirpa loof ?
I do, mally!
The best one for me though was Richard and Judy with their instant translation device - speak in English and it automatically speaks in the foreign language of your choice so you could converse with anyone in the world. Unimaginable!

Now you can do exactly that with your phone :)
Spaghetti trees was Panorama.
it certainly caught out a lot of people.
Those were the simple days when spaghetti (we hadn't heard of the word 'pasta' then) was forrun and exotic and curries came in a packet branded Vesta.
the first chinese meal i had was back in the early 70's, my best mate was Anglo Chinese and her dad had a Chinese restaurant near Soho, very good it was too....
I have never eaten a Chinese meal - I must do the next time I'm in Birmingham.
it was a surprise i can honestly say, a novelty i thought, but it wasn't obviously.
There is a Chinese take-away near to me that people tell me is very good but the only take-away food I eat is fish and chips. I love Indian/Pakistan/Bangladesh food but I won't eat that as a take-away meal. I cook it myself or go to a restaurant.
