Does anyone know the rules/law, for being told by your employer that you must turn up tomorrow with a mask on, after being home 5 days with covid, and still testing positive for covid? This is what my son's boss has said to him. TIA

england? no law any more
if he is too unwell to work, he should take sick leave. If he's well enough to work, his empllyer can insist
How does he know he has Covid?
//and still testing positive for covid?// may answer your question newjudge.
Some employers are happy to take the risk and get you back to work assap. Other employers whose seen the problems of a rapid spread and sudden surge in case leading to staff shortages may take a cautiouser and moresympathetic view
OK, different question then. "Why did he test himself?"

There would not be staff shortages if people who were not unwell went to work.

Yes, England.
LFT tests. Had a very sore throat and headaches. Tired. His son has it too. Same household.
He thinks rest of workers won't be happy if he is still testing positive. He says he is not going. Just wondered where he stood..

There could be staff shortages if there infected and infectous and pass it on to them they work close to so more go off sick. Some companys are having problems at the mo especially where a whole team gets ill at once. One of are Scottish stores is havinga lot of shortages as it spread fast last week. Also some businesses dont want there staff coughing and spluttering near customers like in our store

Thanks for your reply, Bobbin
Have you noticed that cases are on the rise again?
I work in a school so may be different. If still positive after 5 days we have to test every day up to ten days and stay off .After 10 days has long has well you can go back to work even if testing positive .If you have 2 Negatives after 5days you can go back to work .

Thanks, Carole.
I think this is about his 6th day, and still testing positive.
//LFT tests. Had a very sore throat and headaches. Tired. His son has it too. Same household.//

Did he test himself for anything else?

My point is that everybody in this country will eventually be exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, probably multiple times. In fact there's a very strong likelihood that a large majority of the population already has been infected. It is estimated that currently about 1.5m people have it. Free testing is to end at the end of this month and people will then be in the same position if they contract Covid as they are when they contract any other disease: if you're unwell, don't go to work; if you feel well enough go in.

//Also some businesses dont want there staff coughing and spluttering near customers like in our store//

A person who is coughing and spluttering should not go to work. The problem is (and this leads to staff shortages) vast numbers of people are testing for no reason, proving positive and remaining at home when they display no symptoms whatsoever. Hopefully the end of free testing will see then end to that madness.

I hear what you are saying NJ, my son just wanted to know where he stands on this with his boss. By the way, he has always been a hard,& loyal worker and wouldn't skive days off.
get back to work at the least its a cold at is its worse a flu i been working on the frontline last two years not a thing dont believe the hype

I'm not suggesting that, Patsy. I think if he's unwell enough to not go in then he shouldn't. Whether he tests positive is neither here nor there. I would recommend that people do not test at all. That way they can tell their employers they are not well, they don't know what they've got but are not fit enough to come to work.

//...dont believe the hype//

Some on here who don't agree with my views might think I agree with you, fraser. But I don't. Two years ago Covid was a nasty disease and an unknown. Many sufferers became seriously ill and unfortunately many died. Although I did not agree with much of the government's strategy, vaccination changed the ball game entirely. That coupled with natural immunity has meant that for the overwhelming majority of people who contract the disease, it will be no more than a nuisance for a few days. We don't undertake tests for other nuisance diseases and we no longer need to for Covid.
