Car Registration Areas in the UK

Can anyone tell me which area the old registration (pre 2001) numbers are linked to?? eg I am looking for JMT so a car could have a plate of S175 JMT. I know KGN is an old Liverpool based number but can anyone tell me which area is flooded with JMT number plates ??? Thanks

WM was Liverpool/Southport - I remember my Dad buying a Volkswagon Beetle from Southport which was SWM (and no I haven't had a peek at the site!)
