Hello, I am not sure where to put this question so apologies if in the wrong place.
I have had an emergency here and Thames Water have promised to send a team to my property "this evening" but I cannot ascertain what hours they class as "evening". I have tried phoning them several times but all I get is music while I hang on the phone for long stretches of time. Can anyone advise on the hours please ?

I would consider now to be evening up until midnight.
Doesn't evening mean when the sun goes down which is about 6pm.
Any time between 5 and 9 I would think

Oh dear! I was hoping it would be before 10 pm. I am 81 and never stay up till that hour :(
I doubt that there's any formal definition.

Water company emergency teams will be on call 24 hours per day. My guess is that whoever booked your home visit into their computer system could see that there would be nobody free before, say, 6pm and so simply told you that you'd receive a visit 'this evening'. Even they probably had no real idea of whether that meant 7pm or 11pm.

If a job that higher up on the list than yours gets finished much faster than expected, you might get a visit in the near future. However if a job that was expected to take just an hour or so ends up taking four or five hours, you might not see anyone until nearly (or even after) midnight.

Sorry!

Thanks for your replies. I am down as a vulnerable person and they brought my visit earlier because of that. It was originally a 5 day wait but a lady at Thames Water brought it forward to this evening for which I am grateful. I guess I will have to stay up until someone turns up
Yes, fingers crossed you're not kept up too late.
You could always come back here to us as some of us are up until ridiculous hours in the morning, aren't we Chris?
I know (actual fact) that they will leave it as late as they can...Thames Water pay their call-out teams more the more "unsocial" the hours are.
Expect them at 3 a.m.!
^sorry...said that as a joke, so don't worry!
(Although the bit about pay/call-outs is true).

gingejbee I had hoped that was a joke.
The lady at Thames Water was very concerned for me and even asked a neighbour to check up on me. I was OK by the way.

gingejbee. Thanes Water turned up at 6 am so you weren't far off saying 3 am !!
