I recently moved to a new town for my job. It's quite a small town, say about 20,000 of a population. My colleagues are nice but all know each other for years and all have families so I'm finding it hard to make friends :( Anyone ever been in the same situation with any advice to pass on? Thanks

Join a society of something you're interested in. For example if you appreciate real ale then join the local branch of Camra. The local library should have a list of all local societies.
I feel for you, you're very brave to make the move. I can only suggest as above, societys, gyms, any group activity you like or have always wanted to try. Give it time and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Hi I know how you feel about that.

I moved to my town for love not my job, it is a town with a population of about 6,000 where as the one I came from was nearer 50,000.

They all know each other and are practically all related to each other one way or another, you do feel like an outsider, I do sometimes still even after 10 years. But what I did find is my love of football helped integrate me with most people in the beginning because not many women like football so they found it refreshing to speak to one that does and knows something about it. I'm known to most as that girl who supports tottenham or England as they all support Wales around here. So in the days before I had sky and kids I would watch the games in my local pubs and got to know people that way.

I know more females now I have children and they have started school we have something in common.
I'll be your friend. Where are you?
...aww how old are you Headless Rat...?... I live in a fairly small town and at the beginning of the year a new trainee assistant manager started at work, he is miles away from friends and family, we don't go out very often, about once a month on payday,be it for a meal, bowling, or clubbing, and we always ask him along, he also comes to the pub quiz with us, he is quite young and painfully shy , it doesn't help that there are only 3 men working here among all these mad women, but we try to include him, he is religeous so he has joined the local young Christians Group , I'm not suggesting you start going to church or anything!!...but think about what you enjoy doing and pop into the library for info on any clubs etc....

I know small town life is hard as there isn't much to do in the evenings, have you thought about evening classes, it's the right time of year for that...
