I have a car for sale currently advertised on Ebay, as is usual I have had several questions, all of them asking me things that are already in the description! Surely if you are interested in the car you'd read the description?? aaaarrrrrgggghhhh!

What annoys me is people putting reviews on Amazon where they have obviously not read the item description and their own stupidity is the only problem.

I'm reminded of the eBay buyer who paid a fortune in response to an ad for an 'XBox box', not realising that would be exactly what they'd get ;-)
I think people do it to try to satisfy themselves that the sale is private and not a dealer masquerading as a private seller. A private seller selling a single car will know all about it; a dealer might have many cars on the go and might not readily recall the details of all of them.
The other tip for a buyer is to ring and say they're interested in the car for sale and wait for the seller to ask "Which car? or guess "The VW".
I think the funniest thing I had was when I sold a handbag and the buyer, who lived more than a 100 miles from me, requested it was left in her outhouse. Did she really expect me to actually deliver it myself?
I've had quite a few buying items that are described as collection only and live hundreds of miles away! I now make that the first and last line and underlined.
