A nice idea and much easier than I expected it to be.

Many thanks, Child's Play.

I concur, but I feel I had a couple of lucky guesses along the way. The realisation that so few entries were clued made me resort to solving it with the trial and error of a real pentomino puzzle.

I'm sure they've checked it carefully for alternative solutions, but it has the feel of a puzzle which might have them - I couldn't follow the usual logical path.

Many thanks, Child's Play!
Like HawkCrossword, I am wondering if there could be an alternative solution - which is somehow more right than mine - although my answers would appear to fit all the necessary criteria. If not then it is intriguing that a unique solution could have been clued with so little apparent information. Very nice not to have to resort to nasty Excel spreadsheets.
A great little puzzle, thanks Child's Play. It is the case that of the four possible GKL/KL combinations only one is compatible with a grid containing 9 of the 12 pentominoes.
I dread mathematicals, but like emcee I found this easier than I feared. I wouldn't have minded a few more clued entries though.
Great fun! Enjoyed combining the normal number work with shapes.

I didn't need any guesswork, hopefully that means I haven't screwed up anywhere.
When I saw the pseudonym I was full of dread as they'd had 7 puzzles in the early days of The Magpie and I only managed to solve two of them. Thankfully this one was straight forward and a lovely puzzle. So in the words of ELP, "Welcome Back my friend" after 15 years!!
