Hi folks, I will need to renew my driving licence at the end of March 2022 - my birthday is in mid-June, and I can renew the DL online 3 months before it expires. However, I am a bit confused ... will I need a new/up to date passport style photo for this process, please. I wonder if someone can help, please. Many thanks, cheers, Chox.

If you have a passport they will take your photo from that - a rare example of different government departments talking to each other. If you haven't a passport-style photo is perfect - a booth in a supermarket is perfectly acceptable.
I did mine online and as bhg481 has said, I didn’t need a photo as I have a current passport.
If you already have an acceptable photo on your licence then I don't think that you need to change it.

Thanks so much for the information - glad I don't need to go and get a new photo of myself. Great news. Appreciate your help, best wishes, Chox.
Danny, mine was the old style paper licence so I needed a photo.
danny makes a good point with his use of "acceptable". The licence is a useful form of id, so a picture that actually looks like you is important, particularly if the police stop you and you don't look like the photo. From memory, I think the online application says that, so long as the photo looks like you, you don't need a new one.
They re-used mine from the old licence at 70 renewal, and at every (3-year) renewal since, and I'm now 79.
I renewed my licence at 70 and did not need to change the photo.
