a good friend of mine has had a bad falling out with his son because of Eammon Holmes and his equity release adverts. Eammon says an equity release could be used to 'reopen the bank of mum and dad' and my friend's son thinks this is a brilliant idea. The son wants to buy a holiday home and dad is feeling very pressured and resentful.

I bet this isn't the only family in this situation. I really don't know what to say to my friend but I'd like to shut his friend up.

Tell his Son that it's an advert and he should look up the meaning of 'could'.

I wonder if it would have even crossed his mind had he not seen the adverts, Mamya. Thankfully my friend isn't one to be bullied.
Good, it's like teaching children to be aware of 'only' when used in advertising. It's rarely the entire product that's on the screen but often the basic model without accessories.
The first time I ever heard that phrase was from Jack Whitehall as JP in Fresh Meat. His parents were rich and lived in a mansion though.

You friends son needs to start earning and saving where possible as the bank of mum and dad has closed.

tigger, he has been working for 30 odd years, probably paid off his own mortgage
Don’t let him do it! I did equity release about 15 years ago and when I came to pay it off it was really, really expensive. A complete rip off. The interest is dreadful.
Eamonn doesn't care whether it's a good idea, he is just reading a script he is paid handsomely to deliver.

helly, he won't be bullied by his children and he won't do it.
