You mess with a bull, you get the horns. You mess with the bear, the claws. The US will prod and leave. The mess, well, someone else’s problem. We should keep well clear of this one…….But of course we won’t.

David //. We should keep well clear of this one…….But of course we won’t.//
We are members of NATO so keeping clear is not a realistic option.
Well as Ukraine is not a member of NATO military involvement indeed isn’t an opening.
But we have this slightly odd situation where we send troops to Estonia, and the PM to “E Europe”, which is is many miles from the “action”.
Meanwhile Russia marches forces around the border of a country that isn’t even in NATI, claiming it “threatens its security”
Ukraine’s President I think is starting to worry that the West is unwittingly doing Putin’s business for him. After all the country has effectively already been at war with Russia for nearly the past 8 years
ich, Ukraine has a relationship with NATO.
//On 12 June 2020, Ukraine joined NATO's enhanced opportunity partner interoperability program//
Yes it does.
But as it not actually a member the principle “an attack on one is an attack on all” does not apply.

Unfortunately

There is no compulsion for all NATO members to engage in every conflict.

It is the US as usual doing all this sabre-rattling which is dangerously & potentially leading others into a war, a war that would be also, as usual, a long way from the shores of the USA.

Biden is a decrepit glove-puppet being manipulated by the neocon Washington hawks, many of whom would profit from war.
In any war,
Who would in your opinion fire the first shot?
The US?
NATO?
And where would they fire them from?
// Biden is a decrepit glove-puppet being manipulated by the neocon Washington hawks, many of whom would profit from war. //

Finally, the bonkers conspiracy theory is revealed. Shame you have waited for 60 replies before letting us know your agenda.
I think we hardly needed to wait that long :-)
Question Author
Gromit; My "agenda" is to try any way possible, to prevent an unnecessary war. The "conspiracy theories" are being led by the USA. Putin has little to gain & a lot to loose if he were to invade Ukraine, and the West has much to loose if NATO were to attack Russia.

Putin has enough problems already on his doorstep in Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh & potential revolutions in Kyrgyzstan & Belarus.

What is your theory?
Khandro. //a long way from the shores of the USA.//
Didn't you do geography at school?
//At closest point, distance between US, Russia is under 4 km//
@12.10.No,Britain shouldnt leave NATO,but i am just angry Britain gets involved in all these foreign wars when basically as an island we can look on and not get involved.World War one,we stood up for Belgium, result they treat us with contempt.World War two,we stood up for Poland, result they treat us with contempt.FT.

Yes but that's a pub-quiz question & has nothing to do with the present narrative & the 8,000 kms between the two power bases, also it doesn't even relate to the land masses:

quote; 'In the middle of the Bering Strait lie the Diomede Islands comprising of two isles- Big Diomede and Little Diomede. Though they share the same name, they do not share the same continent. Big Diomede is administered by Russia, hence is a part of Asia, while Little Diomede is administered by Alaska, USA, and is a part of North America. The closest distance between the islands is 3.8 kms' :0)
