what with the widening gulf between rich and poor
the cost of living rising at almost twice the rate of pay rises are we the hoi polloi expected to just be thankful to be alive and so grateful that they have saved us from covid? or are we building up social tensions like in the 80's ? are the unions going to come back to the battlefields ?

Can't remember the exact details but in the 60's ( I think) the miners were on strike and were facing financial and social hardship.
The leader of the North West branch of the N.U.M who lived in Blackpool was unfortunately found in Ibiza with his mistress and their photographs were splashed over the newspaper (the Mirror I think)...lol

Just saying!!
He was just doing some research sqad.

Of places the union could send their members to relieve their mental stress
I think you must be referring to Sid Vincent who initially opposed Arthur Scargill and the miners' strike of 1984-5. He spent Christmas 1984 in Tenerife with his partner.
