Throat Abrasion

Possibly for Sqad, but anyone else feel free! In the last two years my teeth have moved around due to my CPAP machine. I can no longer bite my teeth together, and the only ones that meet are my wisdom teeth. As a result, I can’t chee properly and a few days ago I swallowed some shop bread which got stuck in my throat and caused it to bleed. I probably made things worse by trying to get it out using my fingers.

I now have a really painful throat when I swallow. The bit of bread has gone, but I’ve obviously damaged my throat. Any thoughts on what I can do for the pain or to heal it quicker? I am seeing an ENT this week, but would love advice in the meantime.

It was a panini! Hard toasted. I won’t be going there again in a hurry
Sounds painful Scarlett. I’m not a doctor, maybe be careful not to drink hot fluids, and only eat soft moist food. Hope sqad sees your post tomorrow .
Til you get real help, Scarlett I can only think of honey. Manuka if possible. Hope you get sorted soon.
Salt water gargle.
No big deal.

This is a common situation and should settle within a couple of days. Ibuprofen for the pain or if tablets are difficult to swallow, then soluble paracetamol.

You will not of done any harm.
I like sqads answer, makes sense. I’d also personally do the salt n water gargle but that’s just me x hope you feel better soon.
This happened to me some years ago when I was eating very hard pork scratchings that got stuck in my throat.
It was horribly painful for a few days but a good excuse to eat ice cream and custard.
I took soluble parecetamol and it healed itself completely within 5 days.
I use a APAP machine which is the same as a CPAP and can't work out how it has moved your teeth around. Which type of mask is it that you use. I have used a total face mask for a number of years as I couldn't get on with the other types. As barry1010 says eat very soft food for a few days and that should sort out the sore throat.

Thanks all. Day 6 and still hurts but better than it was. Theshedman, Apparently it’s quite common – if the tongue is too big, which I believe mine is, Apparently it’s quite common – if the tongue is too big, which I believe mine is,It can push against the front teeth during swallowing, and the CPAP pressure can cause this. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5886451/
I have a under the nose mask, but I wonder if it would alter things if I had an over the nose one. I actually stopped using it because it kept marking my face. The under the nose one is far more comfortable, but I wonder if it’s causing this.

I feel I am going to have to pay a lot of money for braces now.
