Starters For Christmas Day

I'm in a quandary about what to dish up as a starter on Christmas Day. I was going to do a goats' cheese starter but now that I'm doing a cheeseboard instead of a pudding, I need something non-cheesy to start.

Ideally something that can be prepped in advance or something I can cook in a very short space of time. We all like scallops. I'd rather not do prawn cocktail or soup.

Suggestions most welcome.

TIA.

Smoked salmon crudities, home made pate. I have a recipe for one I used to do with pate on bottom and Philly cream cheese on top in bell or Santa mold.
Smoked salmon and prawns with a salad garnish and Marie Rose sauce, easy peasy and light
Not giving you any ideas Lady - but I do not know of one nice shop bought prawn - as in prawn cocktail and through the sauce - the prawns taste like rubber bands.
Seafood platter that way everyone can eat what they want off the centre of the table or ceviche scallops with a Bloody Mary sauce
Jj...do you have an Iceland up your way? Their raw frozen prawns are excellent.

Lcg...do you like mushrooms? I have a Nigel Slater recipe...roast portabello with thyme, spinach and taleggio cheese.

Hi Pasta,

Yes I've always got those prawns in my freezer.

MT, that sounds nice but I don't think my parents would eat smoked salmon.
Scallops, pancetta and watercress with a lemon and olive oil dressing.
Pasta i can always get them but a good way of c ooking them

Sorry for diversion lady

Jj...simplest is in butter (foaming) with lots of garlic and chilli. Quickly...otherwise they become rubbery.
Might have a mince pie to start followed by beans on toast mains!
A really nice pate.
Stuffed portobello mushrooms?
