Does anyone know the difference between matches and vestas? If the answer is as simple as, a vesta is smaller than a match? In which case why isn't there a name for those extra long matches?

isn't the difference in the fact that a vesta match can be lit by striking on stone etc; whereas a normal match can't, I think that is the difference.

Thanks for your replies, but IN A Pickle you say that the longer matches are now called vestas, but are not Swan Vestas so called and these are the smallests of matches.

Raysparx1, most matches can be struck on a stone except safety matches. Or they could when I last bought a box of ENGLAND'S GLORY
