The Goverment has just given me the Christmas Bonus, all of £10 I am completely overwhelmed!
Just what shall I do with it?
In case you think I am mean, read this:~

"When it was launched by Ted Heath's Tory government in 1972, the bonus payment was worth £98 in today's money.

The £10 Christmas boost was then worth more than the £6.75 basic state pension. The basic pension is now £95.25 a week"

Quite frankly I think it's a bit of an insult, like the 25p a week increase to the state pension when you reach 80!

Dont look a gift horse in the mouth - they may remove it by this time next year.
I think the £10 is paid in with the pension. You have to check to see what the last pension payment was and see if it is any different. That means you pay tax on it I think, as the sate pension is taxable. I just thought of that! damn
crossword fan. I think you are correct, will look at next bank statement. I dont bank on lline

PS:~
I think you can also get it if you are on certain benfits too.
Men get it at age 60 too,but only if they are getting Pension Guarantee Crefit(or other benefit)
I get the £10 and any odd week of cold weather payments when the temp drops, as am on disability allowances but do not get the WFA, all helps though.
Yeah bobbie, that's why I've left my pension for the time being, while I'm still working full-time - I pay enough tax already without HMRC getting their hands on tax from pension too!

mamya,
I presume you are under 60? because most people over 60 are eligible for the WFA.
It was originally paid as a Christmas bonus from the government.

I don't recall it being paid as a separate amount before. It's been added on to the first pension payment in December. Easy not to even notice it's been paid.
