It reminds me of an incident some 40 years ago when we thought we might have a gas leak on our gas fire. We called the emergency number and they told us to use no naked flames and not even turn lights on and off in case a spark ignited he gas and caused an explosion. The regulations insist that only a registered gas fitter can disconnect a gas cooker.
We had a new one fitted last month and the delivery men wouldn't unplug the old one and had to wait until gas safe fitter came to do it.
If you want to move it to a new location then barry is correct. If you want to move it temporarily eg, to decorate behind it, and it has a flexible pipe with a bayonet fitting to the gas pipe then you are allowed to disconnect it yourself. Bayonet fittings haven't been used for a while (I think) but you might have one (we do).
yes you do, no one should disconnect or move a gas cooker, that is down to the gas fitter.
bhg, ours has a bayonet fitting he just unplugged the old one and pushed in the new. Then did gas leak check.
I think a new cooker with a new bayonet fitting is not the same as an old cooker, where no new plumbing parts are involved, being disconnected and re-connected..

We called the emergency number and they told us to use no naked flames and not even turn lights on and off in case a spark ignited he gas and caused an explosion. A gas engineer turned up fairly quickly, went to the gas fire, and used his cigarette lighter to find the link. I'm sure the experienced fitter could tell by the smell that the leak was small and what he did was safe but it did amuse us after all the warnings about switching lights etc when we reported the problem.
I remember going to a fire many years ago when I was in the fire service there was a gas main burst and there were flames coming from it. One of the boys kept putting it out until told that while it was alight it was quite safe.
agree emmie and barrie
no one should go near and fiddle with a gas cooker without a CORGI certification

My gas fitter rang up and said - I have found your gas cooker has been fitted with water return valves ( in case of a disconnection, the back pressure closes the pipe(*) and not gas return valves

and I squealed: "the pressures are radically different, the house is a static bomb! - it is only about 14 cms water for piped gas!"

and of course, that should never have been done

(*) lack of pressure if you think about it, and the water prssure is so high they will never get activated
eek!
not coming to tea at YOUR house
o God this is a law q
yes
if something happens and the house blows up - you wil go to prison

if nothing happens, then you will never get the gas police beating down the door, and the only prob will be when you sell, and boast I moved that doo-dah around the corner all by myself!- no certicate see
If you are capable, no probs.

The fact you are asking here makes me think you should call an expert
nice AB answer there
yes if you can do it - which you probably cant so no.
I like it
