Kitten Proof Xmas Decorations/ Tree??

It seems, after getting two kittens who are now 16 weeks old, and hyperactive lunatics!(I love them really lol), that a Xmas tree is not going to be happening this year. :( : ( we always always have a real tree, and it’s a big thing putting it up and decorating it, but these two are just going to wreck it within 5 mins, pulling every single bauble off it, or else they will be climbing up it!
So it seems I have got to go without a tree, and somehow put up some decorations that they can’t reach!! Any ideas, or anyone had to do this??

Water plus electric lights. Not sensible! The old style real trees are less popular with kitties, the non drop type have softer needles. Nicer on little paws.
