Reading even just that brief report it may well turn out to be longer than 21 years.

Rightly so.
He is to be detained in a secure hospital for an indeterminate time -what makes you think this won't be life? If the doctors think he will never be safe to let out he will remain in hospital until his death.
1) "at least"
2) pschizophrenia.

Let's wait and see.
TTT - this man's actions are savage, no-one would dispute that, but the report clearly explains that he was, and is, seriously mentally ill, and at large without medication or appropriate monitoring due to failures in the state system.

It is likely that he may stay in a psychiatric hospital for life.

You will probably get your wish, not because he is a 'savage' but because his illness renders him a threat to society.
Not everyone suffering with paranoid schizophrenia goes around murdering people. If this illness does have this affect on him then I'm afraid he belongs in a secure unit for the rest of his life.

Too many do-gooders. Still as you say hopefully the doctors wont be swayed by them.
Because they aren't all the same, ymb. Plus, some people are better more effectively medicated than others.
I don't think anyone is suggesting this is an individual who is safe to the public. He may never be.
I don't understand about "do-gooders"? Are those the people who believe psychiatric illnesses exist?

Err, isnt that what I said?

Was that aimed at me? Because I cant see where I said the opposite.

They are people like Lord Longford (RE Hindley). Quite easy to understand.
Lord Longford was as egotistical as he was naive, duped by a scheming manipulative psychopath, we have to hope he was and is a tiny minority of people who interact with the mentally ill in the prison system.
