After messing up channels somehow, unfortunately cannot retune all the BT and other channels. I think I have inadvertently cancelled all channels from 1 to 300 and can only get channels starting from 301 which are the BT sports channels that I already pay for. Somehow I keep being asked to join Sky and Now TV which I don't want to do. Basically, I need to know how to retune my TV from scratch. Hope there is someone out there who can give me some guidance.

Try the simple reboot method at the top of this page first:

If that doesn't work, then move on to the reset instructions for your particular model of the box.

Wife spoke with helper at B T and they did just that but "no joy!!".
As channel numbers 1 to 299 (and also 600 to 799) on a BT TV box are Freeview channels, whereas channel numbers 300 to 599 are internet-based services, it appears that one of two things has happened. Either
(a) there's a fault with your aerial (such as it having fallen off your roof, the cable having been severed, a signal amplifier in the lead having packed up or, simplest of all, the aerial lead not being plugged into the back of the box) ; or
(b) the TV tuner circuit inside the box has packed up.
Either of those would leave you with internet-based services but no Freeview channels.

So, firstly, thoroughly check the everything is OK with your TV aerial and its cabling (and that the plug is securely pushed into the socket on the back of the box). Then, if that doesn't work, explain the problem to BT and hassle them for a new box.
PS: If you've already reset the box, following BT's instructions, it might well mean that there are no longer any stored Freeview channels in it.

So you should carry out a fresh scan for channels before assuming that the box has packed up:
Home > Settings > Signal & Connection > TV Channels > Retune Channels.
