I don't think they had any choice regarding sentencing. He never admitted committing the acts, nor was it witnessed by his partner. So they could only act on the evidence and sequence of events.

I agree... I haven't seen, only read about it. They were sure enough to find him guilty- and trying to blame the mum...
But not sure enough to properly sentence him.
Something has gone very wrong here.

They tried their damnedest to get evidence or a confession to no avail - it was clear they were as let down as any of us are by the result.

I can’t watch things like that or read them - but I got the gist of that link before looking away. I think it fair to say people are losing confidence in the justice system - and with good reason.

well I suspect he'll have a some accidents in the time he's in the slammer. They do have a code and he'll be the lowest of the low.

This isn't to you, just generally-
Either he is innocent... and this is wrong, or he is guilty... and this is wrong.
Sentencing, surely, shouldn't come down to what percentage of guilt, you think there might be.

I was actually referring to the investigating officers who live and breathe these cases day on day and as one said - 'Yes, we do go home and have nightmares'.

The officers do have a tough job. They see and hear some awful things. They are only human.
