I suspect that AB would be a more harmonious, peaceful and tolerant place if the posters were enjoying a joint or two instead of a bottle or two.
Maybe it would but in my opinion cannabis is not the harmless drug you think it is. It does turn everyone into giggly hungry fluffy bunny wunnies.
critical typo - it does NOT turn etc

dannyk13 cannabis may or may not lead to harder drugs but do you think that alcohol is innocent in this sense i know people who drink alcohol start smoking sniffing all sorts people i know who smoke the reefer usually end up in the fridge not with their nose in a bag cannabis is a gate way drug because it is given so much stigma people try it realise it is all lies so they think they were lied to about the other drugs the issue with cannabis is the social stigma
Roadman, so alcohol and cannabis both lead to harder things.OK, but two wrongs don't make a right.
in some cases, cannabis leads to harder drugs

dannyk, you're choosing carefully where to start that slippery slope. I think if you followed it back further you'd find that virtually all cannabis users actually started on tobacco, which remains unbanned.
jno //dannyk, you're choosing carefully where to start that slippery sope//
The OP is about cannabis so that is what I chose to refer to.
no doubt, but you could equally - in fact, better than equally - say it's the tobacco that leads to harder drugs. If it's the harder drugs that are the problem, wouldn't it make sense to put the gate across the slippery slope as high up as possible?

I don't agree that mother's milk "leads to" hard drugs, but I think tobacco does.

two wrongs dont make a right but comparing one wrong that is socially accepted to the apparent same wrong for something that isnt socially accepted is something were able to compare
I have tried cannabis on occasion & found it either ineffectual (resin) or quite beneficial for pain relief & relaxation (herbal). I would favour relaxation of the current laws to :

a) reduce the workload on police/courts.
b) cut off funds to harder drug dealers.
c) be a potential for tax revenue.

Cannabis is easily grown in the UK - heroin & cocaine need to be imported. Tightening up border controls would help.

In 2018 a united nations report revealed that britain was the worlds largest producer of legal cannabis
I don't smoke tobacco but would happily smoke the odd spliff or eat a cannabis scone if I could get it legally.
I've never smoked tobacco in my life but have smoked or eaten cannabis for over 40 years. I've never craved it ,like sometimes you just crave a nice cold white wine, nor have I ever tired anything harder . Everyone I know, without exception, have the same relationship with Weed. Those who are going to go on to heroin will go there regardless of if Cannabis is legal or not -its in their nature, like some will become alcoholics while others will remain 'social drinkers'.
dave; safer not to eat cannabis, you don't know what dose you are getting until it goes through your digestive system. Smoking is quick and you immediately know if you've had enough. Unfortunately, smoking can be bad for your lungs, especially if mixed with tobacco. Tobacco is not only tar-filled, but is a powerful physical addictive, unlike cannabis, which has tar but no physical addictive properties.
Would the police not be better employed moving smokers away from gates, thus halting the alleged progression?
