Having Problems With New Samsung A12

My wife and I got 2 new Samsung A12 mobiles lately.

On our previous mobiles we had icons on the home screen for email, WhatsApp and messaging.
When a new message was incoming a small orange circle appeared on the respective app indicating a new message or messages and how many.
I am unable to get this message indicator circle to appear despite following all the instructions.
I have googled it but can only get so far before they mention tapping on something which is not shown on either phone.
Anyone else experienced similar problem please?

App notifications appear normally on my own A12.

Try going to Settings > Notifications > Included Apps to check that the relevant apps are listed there, with the sliders in the 'On' position.

In order to get the indicator on the app icon, you also need to turn on app icon badges:
