Listening on the radio to a report about the death of Colin Powell, I heard a mention of 'crushing victory'. Isn't 'overwhelming' usually coupled with 'victory'?

Good to see that the journalist wasn't looking for the usual phrase.
It may be the fact that they crushed the regime of Sadat Hussein Sandy
But in my opinion ,leaving a vacuum among the sects there
