Has anyone bought a new build house in Fife Scotland (value between £220000 and £240000) in the past year? What council tax are you paying monthly?. My daughter and her husband are considering buying a new build house at £230000 but on checking the council rate bands it would seem to be over £100 per week. £400 per month. Is this correct? Thank you in advance

it will be paid over 10 months - or mines is anyway
Looking at Wolf63's link (and only considering actual Council Tax, not adding in water charges) shows that the very highest Council Tax payment in Fife on, say, a massive mansion would only be £261.50 per month when spread out over 12 months (or £313.80 if it's spread out over just 10 months). I think you need to check your sums!

Buenchico. What we are looking at is any house over £212,000 is in band H, the highest band and it shows figures of £3137 rates +water £425+ sewage £493, giving a total of £4056 per year. £405 per month in 10 installments
You are looking at £212 value back in 1991...not 2021
Your £212k property would be in a band D/E today.

Ryzen. I'm confused (a normal state for me) but I look at the 8 bands A to H and am seeing any house over £212,000 is in band H whether it was bought new this month or was valued at over £212000 20 years ago
As Ryzen has indicated, the Council Tax band for the property is calculated by the assessors pretending that it existed in 1991 and estimating its open market value at that time. What it actually sells for this year is completely irrelevant.

The average house price in Scotland in 1990 was £35,684. (Source: https://espc.com/news/post/how-scottish-house-prices-have-changed-in-the-past-50-years ). So a new build 'average' house will be placed in, or around, Band C for Council Tax purposes, not in Band H.
If your house was worth £212k in 1991...it would be in band H today.
The council will match your house to one of a similar value today and then reference it to its 1991 value.
