The manufacturers do this for two reasons, firstly so you think you are getting a good deal, and second so the 'average serving' shows less calories sugar and fat. Same with cakes. I bought a sponge cake on line last year from Sainsbury's 'serves 10' . No lie it was the size of a small tea plate.
