I have used pedigree tinned dog food for Harvey for years. Never more than one tin a day. Other food is dry .he has extras , fresh fruit, tinned oily fish, fresh vegetables. I don’t chop and change his diet .

anne - his diet has always been the same too - but somebody did say over the weekend that the wet dog food is not good.
How much wet food does he get jj ?
Question Author
tablespoonful
All of the main dog/cat foods are of good quality - some better than others. Wet food isn't so good for their teeth and that is one reason why people feed their pets it.

If Maxie eats a particular dog food it will do him no harm, unless he is intolerant or allergic to some of the ingredients.

Frankie had Kidney failure and the young vet said that he could only eat Renal cat food. I bought it for him and he totally refused to eat it. I got upset with him and, after a week of him screaming at me and picking at his food, I took him back to see the vet.

When I told the vet (senior partner) what the problem was he just shrugged and said that forcing him to eat something wasn't worth the effort and to feed him what he wanted. It probably shortened his life but he was 15 when he died, this is not bad for a cat.

Wet food is ok as part of a balanced diet.
If you really want to go the whole hog you can feed raw or feed pasta or rice with mixed veggies and cooked meat
Dogs have eaten scraps off tables for hundreds of years. Wet dog food is mushed up meat scraps not used in the Food industry. As long as Maxie is not showing any signs of allergies I can't see there's any harm in feeding the little wee thing what he fancies .
Our working dogs get a complete dry feed wetted with warm water and the odd meaty bone. My German shepherd pup, now 11 months old, gets defrosted raw meat bought frozen from the pet shop, plus boiled rice and carrots. Sometimes boiled tripe as a treat, and plenty of marrow bones. She is spoiled though :-)

We call it the "rough of the house" LOL but I give Maxie all dog food except for bits of ham trimmings.
As ham has salt added I would not give my dogs ham, rather give them chicken or beef
I was just about to mention ham being salty.
Question Author
yes redhelen - do give him bits of chicken and not so much beef.

I find when I do my roast beef on a weekend and I give him bits - he sorta would take diarrhoea, so think beef is too strong for his tummy.
Mine have dry kibble in the morning, my springers teeth improved very quickly- and a mix of canned meat and biscuits for dinner. Often swap the meat for raw or cooked fish, chicken, mince etc. They are generally very healthy and active.
We feed our dog solely on Costco own brand dried dog food.
There’s a website you can check the nutritional value of all dog food, wet and dry, and the price.
You can then decide, based on what you can afford or are prepared to pay, the best for your dog.
Our dog is a bit of a vomiter so gets nothing else, even a bit of ham or cheese, which he loves, makes him vomit.
Question Author
well I don't recall the poster but remember him/her saying - giving a dog Pedigree food was like having a hamburger from McDonalds, so I have avoided Pedigree from that was said.
Question Author
I;m now thinking that the poster was actually talking about Bakers dog food. Sorry Mr Pedigrew.
Your memory's pretty good, Jennyjoan! That post was 9 years ago ;-)
