Good morning, I am looking to buy one to back up my lap top, is there any particular make that are better than others? any recommendations? An IT chap who I used to work with recommended the following, WD 4 TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive, shall i take his advice? thanks for any suggestions, it will be for storing mainly photos , music and home accounts

I use WD Network Assess Storage but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a WD external hard drive, a NAS just suits me better.
A good alternative is Seagate.

4TB is an enormous drive; do you really need one so big?

Have a look at https://www.ebuyer.com ; they have a wide range of hard drives with users' comments, so worth a look even if you don't buy from there.
Don't be tempted to get an SSD just for backups; they're very quick but not worth the extra expense just for backups.
I have hard drives made by WD, Toshiba, Lacie and Seagate and not noticed any significant difference between them.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, Yes i did think the capacity on the one recommended to me was a touch on the large side, i will not need one as big as that i am sure
