Rental Agreement

I am shortly moving out of a privately rented house to aamother. The letting agent says I must pay a full months rent even if I give a months notice rather than a fraction up to expiry of the months notice. Is this normal?

If you pay monthly and your rent is due on the first of the month, and you give a months' notice on the 15th of the month, then usually you will be obliged to pay the full months' rent even if you vacate early. Better to give a full months' notice on the day you pay your rent.
If you pay weekly and have to give four weeks notice then you only pay the remaining four weeks rent due,obviously.
you mention your rental agreement, but dont say what your rental agreement actually says on this subject.
It will also depend of corse what kind of agree ment you have - if it's a fixed term, you'll have to pay to the end of the contract, rather than say part way through thelast month no matter when you give your notice
it depends on your rental contract

COMMERCIAL rent contract says they want the whole of the term even if you leave early ( bit of a shock to me, on house rents) - and if they are bankrupt then write it off as a bad debt
