sorry rule britannia - the words came up on the screen as never will, but everyone including the singer sang never shall. Although now i wrote that i have a recollection of a post a few years ago about the same thing ... hang on
...and when the audience join in they always sing 'Britannia RULES the waves' instead of RULE
As yes that old chestnut: do the words state a prediction (will) or an intention (shall)
The singer plainly decided to be more gung ho than the subtitles
ich - I think it's the other way round: 'will' is the intention
Question Author
i promise ill either be dead by next year, or if im not i wont bring shall/will up again
“ ich - I think it's the other way round: 'will' is the intention”

Only in the first person.
English is a perverse language
A (very) long time ago, I was taught you used shall with first person, and will with second and third, and reversed that if you wanted to add emphasis.

They probably don't teach first, second, third person these days!
I will not enter into an argument about grammar on Answerbank, but I probably shall :)

the drowning man says "I shall drown, nobody will save me."
The suicide says "I will drown, nobody shall save me."
@13.22.Jings,crivvens and help ma boab.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
When Britain first, at heaven's command,
Arose from out the azure main,
This was the charter of the land,
And Guardian Angels sang this strain:

And there's more!
