I live in a block of sheltered flats, and the door to my flat really bangs if I let it go. It's in a corridor and I worry about upsetting my neighbours. Please can anyone recommend a door closer that I can get. Thank you very much.

Does it bang because it already has a simple spring-type closer fitted? If it does, then it would be best to remove it and fit one of these... https://www.screwfix.com/c/security-ironmongery/door-closers/cat840234 "Overhead door closer". Briton is one of the best known. Cheaper ones are around and will work just as well providing they're not too...

It doesn’t have any closing mechanism on it at all. Thank you for your reply Electrochem

"Overhead door closer". Briton is one of the best known. Cheaper ones are around and will work just as well providing they're not too cheap.
Look for one with TWO adjustments.
The first adjustment controls the arc travelled when you first let go of the door. This should not too strong so that it's hard work pulling it open. It's really just the speed of travel.

The second adjustment is the most important. It controls the final 10% or so of travel. The bit where the door closes and latches.
Not too strong so that it bangs, but not too weak so that it fails to latch.

Fitting an overhead is "surface mounting". Just a few screws. No digging out chunks of door required.
Fitting is very quick. The time-consuming part is the adjustment.
A matter of trial & error and adjusting a simple screw.

Any help?
Thanks to davebro there.
The right type, but maybe a tad too cheap. These things do a lot of "miles". They need to last. You do get what you pay for.

Thank you both, Dave and The builder. There isn’t any shutting mechanism at all. I will go for the Screwfix one. xx

Sorry builder - nothing under that catalogue number. Is there another reference number.
Will you need to get permission to fit a closer to your door? Just a thought.

I will ask the house manager - thank you Barry.
Do you mean that link isn't working Helly?

That's very odd.
Try this Amazon link..........

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Door-Closers/b?ie=UTF8&node=1938426031

Go for something of at least £20-30

Builder - I was looking for the catalogue number you mentioned. There’s plenty to choose from on Amazon though, thanks very much for your help.
I see what you mean Helly. Yes, the link I gave goes straight to the Screwfix page of all the closers. I wasn't pointing to any particular one.
I don't know what that catalogue number is. Sorry about that.

Anyway, between Screwfix and Amazon. There are plenty around the price range that should be right for you.
I've always gone for Briton and Eclipse.
I would go for this one.....
