Live or die, Douglas. I think he made a sensible choice

What a shining example to the armed forces he commanded
It does not sound as if they are putting up much of a fight so why people are berating the US and UK governments for finally deciding that it is not worth it and have stopped sacrificing our troops is beyond me

Stickybottle, it’s beyond me too.

Could it possibly be because he, like countless military leaders throughout history he accepts defeat? But history is always written by the winners[for now the Taliban] When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books—books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon?'

Which two cultures are clashing because as far as I can tell Afghanistan is a muslim country and the Taliban are muslim too
Seems odd that one set of muslims will fight tooth and nail to take a country but another set will do nothing to defend it
Why the west are expected to do it ad infinitum and get a hard time for leaving when they realise it is just not worth it is something I find very odd
As far as the Taliban are concerned it is inspiring to see that many women are brave. No doubt more will perish under these cruel and evil barbarians but equally there will be many more to take up their fight.

^commendable but until the world acknowledges honestly the evils of Islam their efforts will remain futile. In one breath we applaud resistance and in the next defend the foibles that create the inequality in such societies.
Choux. A very brave woman indeed. Thank you the post .
Nail, head, roy.
People moan about this country but I cannot even comprehend living like that x
Which one Anne?
Oh come on, spice. You know these people are all psychopaths who mis-interpret Islamic scripture which is all about love and peace really. Shocking!
Question Author
Naomi , that’s Anne making a point ( pmsl)
Always a little too quick if the mark for her own good, Bobbie. ;o)

And speaking of women, interesting to see all those men scrambling to escape the country. Hope the Taliban has a good welfare system to take care of the wives and children they’re attempting to abandon. I’m not holding my breath though.
*off the mark
Question Author
It’s terribly sad Naomi , I fear for those women and girls and how desperate are those men who clung to US planes and fell to their deaths
