This is one film where the present Mrs Hughes and I part company.

She rarely enthuses about films, but she absolutely loves this, and will laugh through most of it when she sees it.

I thought it was as funny as chilblains, and have only ever suffered it once - never again.

I don't think you understand the film, JJ, they have to act like they aren't acting which made them good actors.

I'm always stunned when I read people's negative views of this film, it's a masterpiece that mixes comedy with pathos. The majority of the actors are superb. Some scenes are just brilliant, when Gerald loses it after they messed up his interview, when Jean finds the red g-string and confronts Dave, dancing in the jobcentre queue, I could go on and on.

Absolutely loved it!!! Watched it endless times and laugh in anticipation of the bits coming up. Like you, Prudie, I love the bit at the interview where they are outside walking the gnomes along the window.
