In England.? If your oin England think its the nhs covid app that pings. You need the nhs app for vacc passports. Google 'nhs covid proof of vac'
There are two different apps.

The one for the app that keeps track of who you've been in contact with, and pings you if they've tested positive for Covid, is the NHS Covid-19 app:
https://www.covid19.nhs.uk/

The one that lets you find out about your health records, including displaying your vaccination status, is the NHS app:

iphones and Android phones have different operating systems, so you need to download the correct software app for your phone. The links to the correct appstore are on the links above.
There are two different certificates: one is fit domestic use the other fur international travel: the latter will require you to probe your identity by producing eg passport
“Prove” your identity (!)

Thank you all, it’s so confusing when you are older! Also where do I get a PCR test before travelling abroad (Possibly Southern Ireland) and how do I get the results, hubby doesn’t have a mobile, by the way ….
If you're going to the ROI there's no need for a PCR test if you have had the jags.

From the UK government site

"From 19 July:

All travellers to Ireland will need to fill out a Passenger Locator Form. Failure to complete this form is an offence
No travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary for travellers from Great Britain with valid proof of full vaccination

If you do not have valid proof of vaccination and are travelling from Great Britain you will need to:

present evidence of a negative RT-PCR test result within 72 hours prior to arrival into the country

self-quarantine

undergo post-arrival testing

Guidance can change at short notice so you should check Irish Government advice before you travel"
