I'm going to wait until the halfway point before nailing my colours to anyone's mast. In the meantime, there is still money to be won (or lost, which i obviously hope isn't the case). Colin Morikawa carded a 69, 2 under par in the first round, while Xander Schauffele performed slightly better with -2. Both could b expected to improve on that;

Both Morikawa and Schauffele to card 67 or less in Round 2. £5.41 @ 9/2 = poss £29.76.

and where is Rory

-2

Schauffele is -3, not -2, otherwise he wouldn't have 'performed slightly better' :-)
Golf in the Olympics?!!!! What about snooker & shove-hapenny?
Question Author
Where have you been for the last 5 years, Dave? Golf re-introduced in 2016 after a 112 year gap. Winner of 2016 Gold was GB's very own Justin Rose.
Shove-ha'penny fell foul of both the anti bullying and cashless society lobbies, Dave.
and the Yanks don't play snooker!
I don't think golf is an Olympic sport - I don't think it's even a sport...it's a pastime.

Schauffele certainly did his bit by scoring an 8 under round of 63, and he now leads the field on -11, a stroke ahead of Mexico's Carlos Ortiz. Morikawa, however, could only card a round of 70 and he sits on -3, tied in 25th.
And, for poorclare, Rory improved on his opening round 70 with a 65 and is tied for 7th on -7 (in a very handy spot to launch a serious challenge for gold?)
Question Author
Home favourite Hideki Matsuyama has played himself into 3rd spot with 2 holes of his 2nd round still to play. The question will be if he can handle the pressure of carrying the hopes of a nation on his shoulders?
Another player whose 2nd round is till to be completed is GB's Paul Casey. He had just birdied 3 of the last 4 holes played when play ws halted as he approached the 18th. If he can maintain that sort of form over the next 2 rounds, he must be in with a shout.

£2.50 e.w. Paul Casey @ 16/1
Question Author
Paul Casey had his best round of golf on the 3rd day, carding a -5 66 to jump into tied 3rd spot on -12, behind Schauffele (-14) and Matsuyama (-13). We have 3 Brits who all have a reasonably good chance of medalling as Rory McIlroy is tied in 5th after carding a 67 (-11) and tommy Fleetwood isn't that far behind after hitting 5 birdies in the last 8 holes. He is now in tied 9th on -10. All to play for............
Question Author
Along with 6 others, McIlroy included, Casey finished tied 3rd on -15. A sudden death play off was played out to determine who should take bronze and this was won by Taiwan's Cheng-Tsung Pan, on -1 after 4 play off holes. Casey dropped out at the first play-off hole with a bogey 5.
However, as his finishing position after 72 holes was tied 3rd, I expected to see extra money in my account and was puzzled that none was there. So i dipped into 'Live chat' to find that i am not the only one querying the lack of 'winnings' on the golf tournament. I have been told the matter will be resolved within the next 24 hours.
