I'm trying to reset the password for my router, I have to reset it to factory settings. It tells me it will take up to 5 mins to gather the information & to be patient, but while I'm waiting Chrome tells me presumably because of no activity, that the site can't be found & I lose the connection.

Is there a way to set the length of time before it does this please.

While the router is resetting you will lose connection to it, because it goes off-line during the reset - you can't do anything about it, just wait until it comes back on-line.
Your post reads to me as if you're trying to carry out the reset while your computer is connected to your router over wi-fi. It can't be done that way because, as soon as the old password becomes invalid, you'll lose the connection. You MUST do it with your router connected to your computer using an Ethernet cable.

Chris; I've established that my PC doesn't have a wi-fi connection to the router, it is connected through a system called 'devolo' which works via the house wiring.

Trying to reset the router has led me to now to loose my house phone which was somehow conjoined !!!
