Sorry, I've posted in the wrong thread.
An arthritic hip joint is painful and is very close to the buttock...hence pain felt in the whole area.
The hip joint is surrounded by the buttock muscles and other tissues. Any inflammation caused by arthritis in the hip will cause radiated pain in the buttock area.
Commonly called referred pain.
