I’m not really a party political person (I’ve never voted Tory and was a member of Labour Party for over 40 years before Corbyn) but who do Tory voters think would be the best replacement for Boris when he decides to go? I can’t help but think Gove has a Machiavellian aura about him but has he the intellect.

You jest surely.
He’s Back Bencher personified. Someone to rally Tory Man (I stress the word “man”but hardly the country.
The only way he’d ever be leader would be in a dire emergency. And even the dire emergency that landed us the current hapless incumbent wasn’t dire enough to toss Mr Brady onto the beach. Tho I think he did announce he was standing at one point along with half the parliamentary party it seemed.
I agree with the other two if for some reason Johnson went quite soon but not sure I can see that happening.

Tora, I disagree. Someone will make a powerplay behind the scenes and go full Brutus on Boris. It may not be for a while, but if he wins re-election, it'll happen, just like it did with the Milk Snatcher.

I'm guessing he means he isn't political anymore as "his" Labour party doesn't exist anymore, and frankly, I know what he means.

Mozz 09:18, yeah after 3 terms and even then TGL won the contest with 54% but did not manage 15 points ahead of the runner up. Under the current rules she'd have won and so will Boris. Dream on, Boris will be here as long as he wants. Even with the current crises he's beating up Rodders at will. Labour are a complete Turkey shoot.

Johnson will only be challenged if he’s seen as an electoral liability but shows no sign of wanting to depart.

I cannot see that scenario happening just AFTER an election unless they lost

That's the point I'm making. The threat won't come from the outside, he has no viable opposition right now, but frim within. Someone will think they want more.power, and it won't take much for Boris to mess something up to allow a challenger to get their foot in the door.

If he goes it’ll be after electoral defeat or the prospect of it or perhaps a greatly reduced majority.
