As it will just add to the insurmountable debt, then why not (my dad always use to say if you owe the bank £1, you’ve got a problem, but if you owed them £1m, they’ve got the problem - this seems a little bit similar).

Hopefully this will appease them, even though it’s not the 9% it was reported they originally wanted.

Personally, I found it a little unedifying the way they were whining about 1% in the face of many many thousands losing their jobs, but of course our heroes and angels should not be criticised. Hopefully it will stop all the tik tok dancing videos.

Cue the almost inevitable comment about MPs pay.
It's a start. Misses out teachers and carers though.
Is this Boris covering his back for when his freedom day goes wrong.
the NHS staff wanted 15 percent not 9, i can't understand this at all, how can the country afford it.
Consultants & Dentists !!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus wept!
The country can't afford it but the nhs and all its staff are saints and are untouchable and can do no wrong. Woe betide anyone who criticises them or the holy organisation.
no saints just a lot of mostly hard pushed individuals, they should be glad of 3 percent, i know i would be.
It's actually most NHS staff. I'll get the 3% rise too.

I'm happy with 3% and wouldn't have complained if there'd been no pay rise, given the state the country is in.

Yes there's been a pandemic but healthcare staff were doing what they're paid to do.

The Police don't demand a pay rise everytime they have to take to the streets during mass rioting.
