What a lovely story.
Just as it is natural to have intercourse and become pregnant in recent years , it was just as shameful to become pregnant out of wedlock in the post WW2 era.
The offspring of such were known as ***.
That was then.........this is now and both generations considered their reaction..........normal.
You see, the word b.astard is not acceptable now.
it was common practice in the 30s+40s in Glasgow, the only thing was the marriage didnt last.
That's great news isn't it? I went to a wedding of a couple the same ages in 1977. They are still happily together and looking forward to their Sapphire Wedding Anniversary next year!
my sista in law got married at 16

and I still say, someone got married at 16....

I used to process claims for Retirement Pension and has to see the birth certificates.
Many were marked illegitimate or b.ast.ard. It was blaming the child for the actions of the children.
Peter, that wedding in 1977 was held at Christ Church on Rochdale Road, not far from Moston Lane. It's the one that you pass regularly on your way to the Embassy Club!
