Depends on precise wording but it looks like a mistake where hes used date written or recorded rather than when released as a single. He gets about two thirds right it seems to me which ain't good enough if its proper quiz

It was on yellow brick road album 1973 would that count I was wondering
I fort ( AB speak there see) Elton composed it for The Peoples Princess, rather than just recycled it out of his favourites
I like Elton [ just getting into the gormless AB joggy speak]

an ven it was recycled as Sandals in the Bin for Muvva Theresa
o god sozza - this isnt a statue of Diana (one) - unveiling of
thread then
The answers probably 1974, released as single in early 74 after being a 1973 album track. Am sure it was Benny & Jets on the B side. It was rerecorded in for Diana's death

I recall Mud had a number one around the same time early 1974, what was that called?
Tiger feet?

Answer given tonight was 1973. Don't know where quizmaster gets his information.

As has already been mentioned, the song first appeared on Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, released on 5 Oct 1973. The song was released as a single on 22 Feb 1974.

Such errors are, sadly, not uncommon. Another common one is "What was the name of "Alanis Morissette's debut album?"
