not sure why then even pursued this - aren't the EU convinced that the AZ vaccine is "Norfolk"?
“Mainland” vaccination is now going very well.
Do they even need to pursue this?
It is worse than that. It transpires that the German vaccine Curevac, which has been recommended by the "authorities", is only 47% effective. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Wait till they get the new and exciting Indian strain. They have not as yet condemned it or lobbied against it.
I see covid cases are rising rapidly in the UK at the moment.
A major blow for mainland European vaccination is obviously not good for the UK. If our neighbours suffer a new wave then that will have health and economic implications for us.
The AZ vaccine is harder to make at scale than originally thought, so production is not able to cope with deadlines. That is just a fact of life. No litigation or hectoring from the EU is going to change the situation. The legal proceedings are merely to divert EU citizens’ attention away from the fact that the EU vaccination strategy was poorly designed and executed.

I never said it was.

Germany has banned visitors from the UK into their country because of Indian /Delta
“A major blow for mainland European vaccination is obviously not good for the UK“

Oh don’t spoil their fun :-)
They may have banned visitors from the UK but did we not have Angela over here last week? No doubt she was not on her own.
Europe should Ban all Brits to keep the Delta version contained in the UK. Not allow it to leak into Europe. If it's Contained there is more chance of fighting it
lankeela, Some people are more equal than others

The Delta variant is in Australia and they have banned just about everybody from visiting for the past year or more. It is believed to have been first found in a driver, a man in his 60s, who drives a limousine as part of his work and is involved in transporting international flight crews. International flights are still operating because much of the world's freight is carried by air. It would almost certainly have arrived in the UK by some route or another even if the PM had closed our borders to India earlier. The sooner this ridiculous idea that the virus (in all its variations) can be prevented from crossing borders, the sooner some sanity will be restored to the world.
Well I never, I agree with Sunk, particularly on the point that Mainland Europe not achieving vaccination on scale is no good for anyone, a point I have made on here a few times.

Oh, and well said NJ.
YMB, I don’t feel let down by the current Tory incumbents. I think overall they’ve done a great job in the most difficult of times. Yes, they’ve made mistakes but if you’re looking for perfection you’re not going to find it - anywhere. I wouldn’t have wanted their job over recent years - it’s been a thankless task. I wouldn’t hesitate to vote for them again.
Sorry, wrong thread.
When I said "They have not as yet condemned it or lobbied against it." I meant the useless German vaccine. They were quick to rubbish one that far surpasses it in performance and, ultimately, safety.
curevac crap
oo-er I thought it was 74 - but no it is 47%

presumably they are gonna say they used an out of date sequence
