As an aside, OH ,who had to do Nat. Service, was rendered ecstatic by this ceremony. I now understand how horribly difficult it is to march in time on grass, when footfall marks the time - and you can't hear it. All praise to those soldiers, especially the musicians.

Thanks for all the replies evryone. Interesting and amusing, all of them. I was born and bred in Ancoats, Manchester, at 10 Clarion St actually, and now live in Middleton, in North Manchester. That's too much information about me really.
When I typed "yer queen", it was just meant to be like Alf Garnett, for anyone who remembers him. That's how he referred to her many times. "Yer Queen, innit?, Yer Queen mate!!" But I do have Irish ancestry. From Summerhill in Dublin, actually. There I go again. More useless info about me. Hey Ho! Thanks again for all the replies.
