Daughter picked us up yesterday and took us to Bristol For OH!s hospital appointment.
Checked into Premier Inn. Room very basic. Staff really don't know what's going on. Receptionist said you have a twin bedded room. When we got to it, there was a double bed, two single beds and a big babies cot.
We had room service as he had to isolate. This morning he had to take two tablets at 6.00 am. Nothing to eat or drink. He got a taxi at 10.30 to Bristol Royal Hospital.
I went down for breakfast then into town for a bit of shopping.
Had a phone call from BRI to say his appointment has been cancelled due to no bed for him. He had been booked in and had tags applied. But only 1 bed for 5 patients. So I had to get a taxi and bring him back to hotel. He was fuming and so was I. This is the second time. It was cancelled 18 months ago too. I phoned daughter and luckily she could pick us up again and bring us home. We had friends organised to bring us home tomorrow so I cancelled them too. This is so frustrating, is he ever going to get sorted out.

So frustrating Caran, absolutely no consolation to either of you to know that this is happening to people up and down the country.

So sorry.
No wonder you're fuming, I would be too. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is happening all over the country - have a look at this poor man, also featured on tonight's New at Ten on ITV:

It's disgusting the way people are treated. So sorry for you both, so frustrating. What can I say? Better luck next time...

Brainiac that is disgusting. Puts our problem in the shade!
I’m so sorry you’re both going through this,Caran. From my experience of the NHS it doesn’t surprise me but it still angers me as it must do you. X
sorry to hear of this Caran but even before the Covid my lovely friend's procedures were cancelled about 3 times, she was suffering from ongoing cancer and heart problems.

Naturally enough her husband went going insane. It would be so frustrating getting mentally and physically ready to be let down again.

Hope you get some kind of resolution.
This will be the NHS that we all 'protected' for two years or so, sacrificing our general health on the altar of coronavirus.

As strategies for a good outcome go this is probably the best we could expect from those reacting to headlines and pressure groups instead of leading.
This sort of thing happened all the time even before Corona virus. It was usually The lack of intensive care beds, but that cant be the case here. I suppose the only good thing is that he isn't waiting for something life saving (small comfort I know!)
This is the Health service that (you know who)on A/b
Is always telling us is the best in the World .
At least they should compensate you for expenses , hotel taxi etc,and all the upset for the patient, this must have been an awful experience for the two of you......
Terrible Caran, sorry for you and your husband
i think the hotel was provided by the nhs already
Caran that’s terrible - I’d be fuming too. Am so sorry for you both xx

The hospital paid for the hotel but we had to pay for all meals and taxis. But that is only fair anyway.
So sorry Caran, it makes it worse because of all the arrangements you've had to make and now cancel.
Hopefully it will be third time lucky and he may not have as long to wait.
I would be fuming too. Everyone has a good word for the NHS, but when this happens it just shows it definitely is not perfect. Good luck going forward.
