Hi Can anyone inform me of the best way to prepare shop bought savory ducks. My mum used to put them in a pan with other things and reduce them to a porridge like mixture but don't remember how and I can no longer ask her. Thanks

I just had to Google them, and apparently they were served with Pease pudding. Maybe that's the porridge like mixture you remember?

Savoury ducks? Are you a Stokie, Charlie?
Question Author
Hi Tilly2, what is a Stokie, someone who comes from Stoke. If it is that I come from Kingston Upon Hull in Yorkshire.
My mum used to cook savoury ducks and I hated them. That was nearly 70 years ago, but the memory stays with me.
I hated them too, Margarettom. Horrible, fatty, greasy, chewy things.

I thought only Stokies referred to them as savoury ducks, Charlie. I was wrong. I hope someone can help with your question.
We used to have them when we went to stay with an aunty in Bristol when I was a child. I loved them, in fact we used to have Brains Faggots when we first got married.
I’m not sure what you mean about a porridge like mixture, we had them heated in the oven and they were like large meatballs in gravy.
Duck is my favourite meat. I don't know what savory duck is though.

I love savoury duck I just bake mine in the oven Delicious
Duck yes, faggots no!
Savoury ducks, aka faggots, are small parcels of offal.

Take it from me Savoury Duck in the 1950’s were nothing like Brains faggots. Here is the traditional recipe.
Breadcrumbs
Pig’s heart
Liver
Fatty belly meat or bacon
This was all minced together with herbs, made into balls and wrapped round with pig’s caul fat.

Still fancy them??

I used to sit at the table after every one had finished pushing them round the plate, crying. We were supposed to eat everything in those days. In the end my mother gave up and I just had potatoes and veg for dinner when it was Savoury Ducks.
I refused to eat them as a child too.

Never heard of them being served with pease pudding, ours was usually with spuds , peas and onion gravy.
I buy butchers faggots and cook them in the oven in gravy. No porridge consistency here, they retain their shape. The ones I buy are very low in fat.
Where I live they are traditionally eaten with grey peas and mash.
Reminds me about the time when I was a young girl and went to stay with my brother at his future Mother in Laws home in Derbyshire where everyone seemed to call you duck, and I was asked about what I would like for dinner.
'Does thou like savoury duck, duck?'
As I was trying to work out what on earth savoury duck duck was, my brother came to my rescue and explained I'd never had it before and then explained it all to me.
