A report in the Mail (no link) says that Ian Hislop & Paul Merton get paid £20,000 each for each broadcast. If true, I think this is excessive as the program is well past it's sell-by date and their contributions are usually banal and seldom very funny. And with a compere & 2 guests also taking part they only make a handful of comments. Another example of the BBC being profligate with licence payers money.

HIGNFY is independently made by Hat Trick Productions so the wages of both men do not come direct from licence fees.

so Hat Trick give it to the BBC for free?
Question Author
oh - that's worse, loading Hat Trick's profits on top!
it's very cheap TV saves us a fortune.
no longer watch it,
Question Author
Don't make a point of watching but whenever I do I no longer find it amusing. Maybe I've lost my sense of humour!
I love the programme and don't begrudge the cost at all - as already said it is cheap tv.
i have usually conked out by the time it comes on. ah that age........
A report in my head (no link) says that davebro gets far too much money in benefits. He's well past his prime, just another example of the government being profligate with the money I give them. Given the rest of people, in my opinion he doesn't contribute very much to society and should get an immediate pay cut
If it's in the Mail it's probably not true. They top the table of the Press Complaints Commission for publishing fake news.

I'll get me coat!
In all seriousness I haven't watched it for a while so can't comment on their contributions. However £20k seems small to me
Hadn't watched it for a while as most seemed to be repeats but this week I happened to see it and it was excellent viewing - Dominic Cummings was put through the shredder and I don't think anyone could disagree with the comments made about him.
I watch it every week and, like many a panel show, it is sometimes decent viewing, sometimes not. The very worst i saw was when they had David Threlfall as one of the guests and he contributed absolutely nothing to the proceedings. He actually looked as if he didn't know what he was supposed to be doing.
Never miss it....very. clever, amusing and if they can get £20,000 a click each, then good luck to them.
HIGNFY ?? What program is that ?
Beats all the tedious 'reality' programmes into a cocked hat, no doubt there are those who would like to see it 'updated' with suitable hosts, along the lines of Question of Sport.
