I love period dramas, but apart from the clothes this was awful! So busy being "quirky" , I watched until the end to give it a chance but I couldn't have cared less about any of them or wondered what happened next. There's subtle "quirky" and completely over the top, this was the latter unfortunately:-(

Question Author
and what was the opening ditty
1940s it was not !

My dear leddy mother
said of the credits/intro of the Laurie/Fry Jeeves and Wooster
" it really was like that you know"
not even going to bother trying it
Didn’t watch it. Can’t bear those Mitfords.
On watching this episode I don’t think I’ll watch the rest. I never liked the Mitford either! Always thought they were so clever and superior. They were all mad apart from Diana.

oh we have the bolter - 21 45
( the leddy who ran away alot)
Question Author
oh god tony has just wandered in in white tie
and the voice over has made a complete mess of describing it
( "white shirt black coat and foo foo")
I read the books and love it. It's such a change and it's funny.
I gave it a go but loathed every minute of it. Such a strong cast, but such utter awfulness!
I lasted the whole episode but sadly it's not for me.

quite agree bunkie
very disappointed - I must read the book
she got very friendly with evelyn waugh - whose brideshead was post war ( portrayal of pre war lost world)

Did the mitfords realise there was a war on? Unity obviously did
Diana and Unity both devotees of Hitler, how could they one wonders live the life of riley and believe in fascism.
Question Author
like champagne socialism

everyone polarised - my mama again went to a party where they served south african sherry ( not Franco's muck ) - how times change !
Question Author
Leddy Redesdale:
whenever I see a headline 'Peer's daughter ....' in the newspaper I know it will be about one of you.....

Unity actually managed a headline " I am a jew-hater" says peers daughter

Caryl CHurchill and Ned Sherrin wrote a west end musical - Thanks for the Memory ..... about the sisters, or does my memory fail me
The daughters were the subject of a 1981 musical, The Mitford Girls, by Caryl Brahms and Ned Sherrin, and of a song, "The Mitford Sisters", by Luke Haines.
Question Author
thx
yeah saw it
the blurb said that they wrote most of the script driving about in Caryl Churchill's roller

Also did Pal Joey with Sian Phillips ( in my little den .... of iniquity )
Question Author
Brahms - not Lizst - never good at names
I watched the episode last night but decided that it’s not for me.
I threw the towel in after 20 minutes. Not even the delightful Lily James - literally all fur coat and no knickers - could hold my attention any longer.
A wasted 10 minutes for me!
