Do you mean a PAYG meter?
No, its on DD, with EDF
Standard meters are credit meters because you don't pay in advance for what you use, you either pay when you get the quarterly bill or pay monthly.

I think you are referring to a prepayment meter.

Yes I mean prepayment meter
That's what I have...for both gas and electric.

A member of the family is thinking of having one installed .

Does it give an ongoing meter reading ?
Yes it does. A prepayment meter should be avoided if possible, though, as it usually costs more.
I find it's right for me as I can control my usage/spending on G and E easier.

So if he gets one installed , he can switch back to a normal tariff in the future ,without having to have the meter changed again ?

Can I change my prepayment meter to a standard meter?

Not everyone is eligible to change their meter out for a different type. Additionally, those that are eligible may need to pay for it. The big six suppliers will usually not charge their customers for changing from a prepayment meter to direct debit.

Thanks both
I would advise anyone who is not being forced to have prepayment meters not to have them.
A smart meter will tell you at a glance how much your bill is now, how much you've spent that day/week/month so the bill doesn't come as a shock.
