Why do I not feel guilty for my opinion that same sex marriage is an abomination.

Must be my age and intolerance.

Sparklykid, I think we just have to face the fact, however unpalatable some may find it, the TV has to reflect the world as it is today. Unfortunately, because soaps need to be inclusive, I think there is a disproportionate amount of LGBT's, same sex marriages etc. As well as that there seems to be a disproportionate amount of criminality and death by accident...

People have been getting married/partnered for Millenia....certainly since long before a small Middle eastern weather-god and his attendants got in on the act.
Sadly, it was also, historically, more to preserve wealth/property rights than a declaration of love....

Thank the Lord (!) that we now live in more enlightened times.
kahdro, since 1978 the law has changed, so your definition is out of date
The romans always used to commit homosexual acts and no one cared it didnt make em less of a man or change their social status

I wonder what changed to make people so uncomfortable probably their own insecurities
JTH as a matter of interest you, as a member of the LGBT community, may be able to shed light on what is the difference, from a gay persons point of view, between being 'married' to your partner or having a 'civil partnership?

There is nothing legal to be gained, and 'Straight ' people do not have the choice of a civil partnership
Question Author
I am totally with JTH. " I prefer women"

Goodness knows what you are, I can guess though.
I smell Peace Lilies.....again :-/
Taking your second point first; the inability of heterosexual couples to be Civil-Partnered is nothing to do with the LGBT+ groups and all to do with the Govt. I suggest those heterosexual couples wishing to get CP'd lobby Parliament for as long and hard as we did...

Have you ever been to a Solicitors to sign something 'legal'....a will....a house-purchase contract, etc. ? Now imagine doing it in a posh-frock/suit with flowers, guests, some specially chosen music and a small speech to mark the occasion....
That's the reality of a Civil-Partnership. You are simply signing a legally-enforcible Contract (literally, it's a longish paper document).

We wanted the 'romance' of a wedding.....the exchange of vows.....our friends and family to witness this import 'rite'. And we got it. :o)
I kiss the homies goodnight and that aint even gay just being a good friend
Roadman: I haven't said a word on the subject of homo-sexual acts.

Bednobs: //since 1978 the law has changed, so your definition is out of date//

It's not about law, changed or unchanged; it's about my VIEW.
No need to shout.
I took that as emphasis rather than shouting by Khandro.
Just to correct Aunt Polly - heterosexual couples do now have the option of a Civil Partnership - I have family members who have done just that.

The law changed in 2019 - I am surprised that you didn't know.
you are basing your VIEW on the 70s? why not the 1870's or the 1770s?
Thank goodness I'm a tolerant oldie...as opposed to the other kind.
